2016 US-31 Reconstruction

MDOT will begin Phase 1 of the US-31 Reconstruction Project beginning March 1.

Visit the Macatawa Area Coordinating Council’s website for more information and to sign up for MDOT email notifications on the project.

Project Overview

  • US-31 will be reconstructed between 8th Street and Quincy Street.
  • An additional lane will be added in both directions from Lakewood Boulevard to Quincy Street.
  • Traffic signals and bridges will be improved.
  • Left turns will be prohibited for the duration of the project.  In order to make a left turn, motorists will need to use crossovers at 16th Street or New Holland Street.
  • Intersections (James, Felch, Riley and Quincy Streets) will be reconstructed, but will be open during the project and will allow for motorists to cross US-31, except during the 4-day reconstruction period.
  • The overall construction project timetable is from March 1 through November 30.
  • Work will be suspended during Tulip Time from May 3 to May 15.

Additionally some bridge painting and additional restoration work will take place in the spring of 2017.
